CINCINNATI – The Uptown Consortium has announced that its President and CEO, Tony T. Brown, has been named Vice Chair of the Consumer Advisory Council, an advisory committee of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. He will become its chairman in 2008.

The Consumer Advisory Council, established in 1976, advises the Board of Governors on the exercise of its responsibilities under the Consumer Credit Protection Act, as well as on other matters in the area of consumer financial services. The council membership represents interests of consumers, communities and the finance services industry. Members are appointed by the Board of Governors and serve three a year term. Brown is currently serving the second of his three years, which will end in December 2008.

As the Vice Chair of the Council, and as its Chairman in 2008, Brown’s role will be to convene the Council meetings and to ensure that a wide variety of views and ideas on emerging consumer and community development issues are heard. The Council’s role is to impact regulatory action as the Board moves forward with rulemakings in developing policies and guidelines.

“Tony Brown has been a tremendous asset to the neighborhoods of Uptown Cincinnati, acting as both leader of the Consortium and as an advocate of Uptown itself,” said Dr. Nancy Zimpher, President of the University of Cincinnati and Chair of the Uptown Consortium board. “I’m certain the same will be said of his contributions to the Consumer Advisory Council. I speak on behalf of the entire Uptown Consortium board of directors when I congratulate Tony for receiving this honor, and for being asked to lead a major government consumer advisory council.”

In addition to his position at the Consortium, Mr. Brown’s involvement in community and economic development is quite extensive. His present board memberships include the national New Markets Tax Credit Coalition, Community Reinvestment Fund, Urban League of Greater Cincinnati, Downtown Cincinnati, Inc., Cincinnati Park Board Advisory Group and the Talbert House.  Brown is an advisor to several University of Cincinnati programs, including: Member of the President’s UC|21 Strategic Planning Council, Institute for Policy Research and the University’s School of Real Estate Executive Advisory Council.

Brown is a graduate of Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio with a Master of Business Administration degree in Finance and a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Affairs and Business. He resides in Cincinnati, Ohio with his wife, Lawanda and daughter Savannah.
