"The University of Cincinnati is proud to be a partner in developing Uptown Cincinnati into a thriving neighborhood and innovative business and retail center-a great place to live, work, learn, and play. Our strategic plan, UC|21: Defining the New Urban Research University, calls for us to establish and nurture key partnerships with our community. UC's continuing commitment to its own neighborhood is demonstrated in many ways. Here are just a few.
UC helped create Neighborhood Development Corporations in Corryville, Clifton Heights, and other Uptown locations. Through these new non-profits, extensive redevelopment is underway on Calhoun Street, Jefferson Avenue, Martin Luther King Drive, Clifton Avenue and elsewhere. These exciting projects-which will add new housing, retail, parking, and public spaces to Uptown-have been funded with more than $50 million in investment from UC's endowment. Operating on a philosophy of "patient" capital, UC has provided these loans with highly favorable terms.
But UC's involvement goes beyond financial. Faculty and staff at UC are loaning their expertise in community development, real estate, urban design, and more to Uptown projects and programs. Every Saturday, members of our UC family, including hundreds of students, are hard at work building their second Habitat for Humanity house in Mount Auburn.
UC expects to add one new home for an Uptown family each year through Habitat-and hundreds more through the efforts of UC and its partners in the Uptown Consortium."
