New Renderings of Flagship Corridor Development

Terrex Development & Construction recently completed revised renderings of its Uptown Gateway development in the Uptown Innovation Corridor with its design partner GBBN. The $250 million mixed-use development’s first phase includes two office buildings, a 158-room Hilton Homewood Suites hotel and an underground parking garage.

Last year, the University of Cincinnati signed a long-term lease for a 180,000-square-foot office building to house its digital futures initiative. The building will co-locate interdisciplinary research and innovation focused on addressing industry challenges and opportunities. Its location at the southeast corner of Martin Luther King Drive and Reading Road is designed to increase synergies with the university’s 1819 Innovation Hub, where industry partners like Kroger, P&G, CincyTech, Worldpay and more collaborate with UC’s students and faculty.

The other Uptown Gateway office building, which is also 180,000 square feet across, is being built on spec. Terrex is working with JLL to identify tenants that fit their vision for the development and the Corridor at large.

Terrex and Messer Construction Co. began site development in the last week of November 2019 with the goal of completing the first phase by 2021.

“We hope these new renderings showcase how much thought has gone into creating an innovative and attractive development that highlights the overall design principles for the Corridor,” said Peter Horton, Principal, Terrex. “As we move into site development, we’re extremely excited to show progress.”

The Corridor is focused on leveraging the strengths of the Uptown anchor institutions—medicine, research and innovation advancements—to attract talent and high-growth, healthcare and digital companies to Cincinnati. With the help of international design firm Sasaki, Uptown Consortium, Inc. developed three design principles to guide the Corridor’s master plan: Great Streets, Great Spaces and Great Places.

“The Uptown Gateway is a perfect example of the type of developments we want in the Corridor,” said Beth Robinson, President and CEO, Uptown Consortium, Inc. “As construction efforts get underway with Uptown Gateway, we move one step closer to realizing our vision for a world-class innovation district.”

More than 1 million square feet of new space totaling more than $1 billion of investment has been completed or is currently underway in the Corridor. When fully implemented, the Corridor master plan anticipates $2.5 billion of project investment, more than 3 million square feet of mixed-use development and the potential to create 7,500 jobs.
