Clifton Barbers, a barbershop on Ludlow Avenue, has become wildly successful since the shop opened in January 2017. The owners’ attention to detail and dedication to the community, in addition to the shop’s vintage vibe, continue to draw many devoted regulars.
The business is owned by Andy Mobarry, a Cincinnati native. A few years ago, Mobarry saw an open storefront in the Clifton business district and decided to purchase the business. He later opened Clifton Barbers with three friends from barber school—Cody Best, Blake Siebenburgen and Brandon Skavenger Cornell.
“It’s not a strip mall feel. It’s a community for other people to come up here. You can come up, get your haircut, go to lunch or even see a movie. It just fits perfect for us and the clientele.” Said Mobarry. “It’s a great area up here. We were just drawn to it immediately and that’s why we chose it. It’s centrally located and just the area itself, the vibe, it’s a good vibe city.”
The team knew they wanted a specific feel for the barbershop to reflect their values and aesthetic. Best, Siebenburgen and Skavenger Cornell worked to renovate the shop and Siebenburgen and Skavenger Cornell painted and chose all the shop’s decorations to get the exact look they wanted. The unique barbershop has the simple goal of providing great service while having fun, and they make good on that promise every single day.
The business owners are also fierce advocates for the community and the growth of the Uptown area.
“Everyone is benefitting up here by the new change-up. There is stuff here on Ludlow for everybody,” said Mobarry “It’s a cool thing for people to come eat, grab a coffee, listen to some live music, and walk in front of these shops.”
As Clifton Barbers approaches its third anniversary, Mobarry is proud that their small business has grown into a local favorite. But they are most excited for the future in Uptown and the opportunity to continue serving a growing base of customers.
“We are excited to see a business like Clifton Barbers thrive in Uptown. They are a testament to how much the community enjoys and supports local businesses,” said Brooke Duncan, Community Development Manager, Uptown Consortium, Inc. “Their success can only encourage more entrepreneurs to come to the area.”
