The International Economic Development Council (IEDC), a non-profit organization that serves economic development professionals and is a top resource for economic development organizations around the world, recently featured a thought-leadership article from Uptown Consortium, Inc’s (UCI) President and CEO, Beth Robinson.
A Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) since 2007, Robinson is also an active IEDC member. The article, Creative Financing, Innovation and Job Creation, can be found in the IEDC’s quarterly newsletter, The Economic Development Journal. It covers how UCI formed partnerships with key investors to accrue capital to transform an area suffering from disinvestment into a world-class hub of innovation and job creation. It shares examples of Uptown’s success, the impact it has had on the surrounding community, how it overcame challenges and how a similar strategy can be replicated. Read the full article here.
In prior years, IEDC granted UCI a Bronze Rank in the category of Creative Financing (2021) and a Gold Economic Equity and Inclusion award in 2020 for UCI’s inclusion efforts. UCI was also awarded a Gold Award in 2013 for Neighborhood Development. UCI’s economic inclusion efforts were featured as a best practice in a thought-leadership article that appeared in the IEDC Journal in 2021.
