The Avondale Digital Inclusion Project, a collaboration between Uptown Consortium, Inc. (UCI), the Avondale Development Corporation (ADC) and the University of Cincinnati (UC) is continuing its digital skills workshops through the end of 2023, in addition to weekly office hours.
Most recently, on September 20, over 25 residents attended a digital skills workshop on artificial intelligence. Residents, from kids to seniors, learned from Josette Riep, AVP for Digital Technology Solutions at the University of Cincinnati. The September workshop followed an August workshop on basic computer skills.
The next workshop is on October 5, where UC Health will present and engage with residents through a presentation and simulation on MyUCHealth/MyChart and telehealth virtual care. This is an important topic given that most individual healthcare information, and oftentimes medical care, is now available online. Yet, disparities exist regarding access among Avondale residents compared to the rest of the City of Cincinnati.
On November 2, participants will learn about online games, YouTube and social media and on December 7, participants will learn about online security and privacy. Sign up here if you would like to attend a future workshop.
The monthly workshops are in-person, free, and are designed for young people, middle-aged adults/parents and older adults (60+). They are held at The Avondale Business Center (3635 Reading Road, Cincinnati OH 45229).
In addition to the workshops, weekly in-person office hours are being held each Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. through December 19. Office hours are held at the Avondale Branch Library (3566 Reading Road, Cincinnati, OH 45229). The office hours are facilitated by a UC Master of IT student alongside an Avondale techie squad youth facilitator. Sign up here if you would like to attend the office hours.
The workshops and office hours are excellent opportunities for community learning and one-on-one support to successfully navigate digital spaces. Uptown Consortium, Inc. continues to partner with residents and stakeholders to advance digital inclusion in Avondale. Interested in partnering, volunteering or attending a future session?
